"Welcome to the Festival"
Opening Ceremony with horses, artists, street art and superstar Wincent Weiss
It is going to be colourful, entertaining and exciting, but it is also going to sound great too: The Opening Ceremony of the CHIO Aachen on the evening of June 28th, holds a spectacular programme and a fantastic singer in store – the focus will attention on the youth.
The CHIO Aachen stands for exceptional moments, for huge emotions and dreams. And that is exactly what it will be about at the Aachen Soers when the floodlights are switched on in the impressive Main Stadium on Tuesday evening: “We are going to portray that dream of every young equestrian athlete of being able to ride on the holy grass in Aachen in magnificent show performances,” the director Uwe Brandt promised. Brand is staging the Opening Ceremony together with the CHIO Aachen Head of Sport, Birgit Rosenberg. 200 horses, 500 extras and exceptional artists and performers will be there, when the words “Welcome to the Festival!” ring out.
Festival – “This joy, this feeling of celebrating together over many days and experiencing an outstanding atmosphere wasn’t possible over the past two years,” stated Birgit Rosenberg, who is also a board member of the organisers, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV). This year the focus of the entire CHIO Aachen 2022 lies on the youth: Street art, the best aspiring young riders, plus the ALRV is staging the “FEI Youth Equestrian Games”. After falling victim to the pandemic in 2021, the Olympic Summer Games for young show-jumpers is now being organised during the CHIO Aachen. 30 athletes aged between 14 and 18 from 30 nations will compete in Aachen. And the young talents from five continents will already experience what it is like to ride over the holy grass during the Opening Ceremony. The international stars of tomorrow will namely be presented to the crowd, alongside some of the equestrian world elite.
Festival – of course that doesn’t just mean a show, it also means music. One of the currently most popular German musicians is awaited at the Aachen Soers, namely Wincent Weiss. He will perform some of his most famous songs on the CHIO stage and will without doubt not only impress the younger spectators. “Since the youth plays such a major role this year, we decided to also place the focus of this year’s Opening Ceremony on the youth too,” Birgit Rosenberg commented. And Uwe Brandt added: “The guests of the Opening Ceremony can look forward to a great adventure.”
