Studying at the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS

The extra-occupational “Equestrian Stable Management” certificate programme starts in the autumn of 2023

Professionals employed in the equestrian industry can profit from the brand-new certificate programme of the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS and the RWTH International Academy in future. Newcomers to the profession can obtain optimal training for the rising demands of the future in the scope of the Junior Programme, whilst participants with more experience in the field can enrol for the Senior Programme.

With a turnover of approx. 6.7 billion Euros in Germany, the equestrian industry is not merely a significant sector, it is also currently undergoing radical change: Social and economic trends as well as the future themes, digitalisation and sustainability, are having an increasing influence and are revolutionising the entire industry. This is having an impact on the equestrian businesses and their staff: To remain competitive, establishments are having to satisfy the new demands and take on a future-oriented approach. “The Equestrian Stable Management certificate programme conveys the necessary knowledge to suit this purpose,” is how Stefan Knopp, Director of the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS, explained the intention behind the new concept. “We are delighted that we have been able to win over the RWTH International Academy as our strong partner,” added Birgit Rosenberg, Executive Board Member of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV). The RWTH International Academy is an expert in extra-occupational further education for skilled workers and executives, it conveys cutting-edge university-level knowledge and qualifies the participants of the certificate programme to an academic level in a professional and personal manner.

As the largest equestrian show in the world, the CHIO Aachen stands for innovation and quality at the highest level. This is also reflected in all of the training and further educational offers of the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS – the same also applies for the brand-new certificate programme, which kicks off for the first time in the autumn of 2023. The programme targets professionals from the equestrian industry, who are interested in educating themselves further, for instance equestrian stable managers, equine managers, grooms and professional riders. There are two separate programmes for this fee-based further educational qualification: Newcomers to the profession, who can prove that they have completed an apprenticeship as an equine manager or who have obtained a comparable qualification, can gain basic knowledge in the scope of the Junior Programme, which is designed as a full-time course of study. Experienced professionals can educate themselves further by enrolling for the Senior Programme, which is set-up as an extra-occupational course.

Designed as an online course following the blended learning format, the participants of both programmes enjoy all the advantages of e-learning. Offered as an online course following the blended learning format, the participants of both programmes will enjoy all the advantages of e-learning. They remain extremely flexible in terms of location and time and decide themselves, when and where they wish to learn whichever contents – at the same time they profit from the professional, digital learning contents of the RWTH International Academy’s film studio: Action-oriented learning methods, practical live sessions and case studies via an interactive online learning platform.

Only the six-month obligatory, on-site training that forms part of the Junior Programme is location-bound. International and famous equestrian sport establishments such as that of the dressage rider Isabell Werth (Rheinberg), of the show-jumper Jos Lansink (BEL), of the show-jumper Elizabeth Madden (USA) or Holger Hetzel (Goch) have been won over as partners for these internships. “In this way, the unique, international network of the CHIO Aachen enables the participants to learn from the big names of the equestrian sport and gain insights into professional businesses,” explained Stefan Knopp. Furthermore, different modules from the four theme areas “Equestrian Industry”, “Operational Management”, “Digitalisation” and “Communication Skills” will be addressed in the programmes that run for one year. This will be further enhanced by keynotes held by experts. Each of the obligatory modules ends with an examination on the respective module. All of the seminars will be held in English. “In future, graduates will have the unique opportunity of using this academic qualification to stand out from the masses and will allow them to take on more responsibility in the establishment and professionalise the activities,” stated Stefan Knopp.
