Nadia and Marcus Ehning in the CHIO Aachen podcast: “Aachen is like coming home”
Experiencing the stars of the equestrian scene close up – that will no longer be purely possible over the ten days of the CHIO Aachen at the Soers in future, but instead all year round from the comfort of one’s own sofa, while jogging or on the way to work. Because with immediate effect there is going to be regular CHIO Aachen podcasts with special discussion partners that allow the podcast host, Marc Eschweiler, to take a look behind the scenes.
We are kicking the podcast series off with two of the best athletes in their respective disciplines: He is the three-time winner of the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen, she is the most successful, individual vaulter in the world. We are talking about Marcus and Nadia Ehning, who invited us to their yard in Borken, Westphalia for the first episode of the CHIO Aachen podcast. Perhaps it is because of the atmosphere there that the otherwise rather reserved Marcus Ehning suddenly talked more openly than ever about his family life and top competition sport. Nadia and Marcus recall how they met, give insights into their everyday private life and share the highlights and setbacks of their sporting careers with the listeners.
For example, Nadia Ehning reports that the World Equestrian Festival is a fixed item in the family’s diary every year. “Aachen is like coming home,” the mother of four stated. And she is quite amazed when in the course of the conversation Marcus Ehning explains how he deals with his nervousness before riding – like a few years ago during the Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup, for example. “Things spring to mind that you really don’t want to think about at that precise moment in time. And then I tried to blend everything out and thought: My wife and children are sitting on the stand and I want to put in a nice round for them now.”
With immediate effect, the CHIO Aachen podcast offers further exciting insights like these as well as good entertainment and the odd surprise, everywhere that podcasts are available. A perfect prelude to Germany’s largest sporting event, the CHIO Aachen, which is being staged from July 28th – July 7th this year.
