CHIO Aachen: Lamaze won with a fractured foot
Despite strong pain, the Canadian rode for victory in Sunday's ROLEX Grand Prix

Obviously in pain, Eric Lamaze, winner of the ROLEX Grand Prix, The Grand Prix of Aachen, hobbled to the press conference after his triumph on Sunday evening. Afterwards, the examination in the hospital resulted in the certainty: The left foot had been fractured. “I did not have the time to think about the pain – I had to win the ROLEX Grand Prix”, smiled Lamaze on Monday. The 42 year-old suspects that the fracture happened during the competition’s first round when he and his horse landed after jumping the triple combination: “I heard a crack then”. Lamaze is awaiting the upcoming surgery in an unconcerned way, typical for him: “They will put a few screws in, and I’ll be back in the saddle in three weeks.”
