“CHIO Bridge” is on its way
The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. is supporting the construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Krefelder Straße – Klaus Pavel: “This bridge is a sculpture”
“As part of this city we want to make our contribution to the city,“ is how Klaus Pavel, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV), explained the club’s financial involvement in the construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Krefelder Straße. The construction of the bridge was recently endangered due to the increased costs.
The construction of a pedestrian bridge at this location is an “irreversible requirement” (Lord Mayor, Marcel Philipp) for the use of the football stadium of Alemannia Aachen. The draft of a curved construction suspended from a 65 metre high pylon met with great enthusiasm, however subsequently the high costs involved became a problem. Now, with the support of the ALRV the bridge is to be built and will become a visible trademark on the biggest access road to the city centre. “The CHIO Bridge is a sculpture,” commented Klaus Pavel.
The logo of the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen, will be displayed on the bridge, which will bear the official name, the “CHIO Bridge”. “This bridge is extremely important for the image of our city,” stated the Lord Mayor. The quotes from the building contractors are to be submitted within four weeks, the bridge is expected to be completed in time for the CHIO Aachen 2011 (July 8th-17th).
