New TV studio for CHIO Aachen
ALRV and WDR are collaborating closely on the studio’s construction – CHIO Aachen has already long since been classed as a TV event

There is going to be an end to the makeshift solution. The new TV studio in the main stadium is going to be completed in time for the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen (July 9th-18th). This is where the live programmes for the channels ARD, WDR and ZDF will be put together in future during the competition days.

The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV) is realising the construction project together with the WDR. “As one of the broadcasting channels, we are delighted that the long-standing collaboration with the ALRV will lose its last provisional touch, once the new studio is in place,“ commented Steffen Simon, Head of Sport at WDR.

Frank Kemperman, Chairman of the ALRV, is also pleased about the new addition on the showgrounds: “The CHIO Aachen has already been a major media event for some time. By building a permanent TV studio we are fulfilling a further standard, which is necessary for a major sporting event like the CHIO Aachen. We are pleased to be able to carry out this task jointly with the WDR.” The layout of the two-floor studio, that has a surface area of approx. 50 m², is based on the design of the striking judges‘ tower and is being executed by the Aachen-based company Tilke, which was also responsible for constructing the CHIO trademark, the judges’ tower, in 2004/2005.

Both parties will profit from this permanent TV studio in future. It will above greatly facilitate the live coverage. And this is extremely important, since the CHIO Aachen has long since been classed as a popular TV event: Once again this year the TV viewers can look forward to over 30 hours of broadcasting on ARD, WDR and ZDF, 25 hours of which will be live. In addition coverage of the “World Equestrian Festival“ will be transmitted in a further 140 countries all over the globe.
