CHIO Aachen 2010: Top teams will be competing in the cross-country


The DHL Prize of the eventers has developed into a mega crowd-puller – national team coach comments: “Aachen is unbelievable”

On July 17th, 2010 the open country of the Soers is going to be the setting for plenty of action. This is namely when the eventing stars, also referred to as the “bush riders”, will be competing on the spectacular cross-country course of the Aachener Soers during the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen. The best teams in the world have already confirmed their attendance in the show-down for the DHL Prize.

In addition to the German titleholder (the Germans have won their home game, both in the individual and team classifications since 2007), all of the favourites will be saddling their horses. “Among others, the strong Australian, British and New Zealand team riders will be setting off on the 4 kilometre long course,” Frank Kemperman, the Show Director, stated 100 days before the CHIO Aachen 2010 gets underway. Since 2007 the eventing discipline that comprises of dressage, jumping and cross-country competitions, has been an integral part of the CHIO Aachen. “That was a world-class decision,” Hans Melzer, national team coach of the German eventers, commented joyfully. He also remarked that Aachen is like a World Championship contest or any other big championship, “the atmosphere is unbelievable, simply unique, and the course designed by Rüdiger Schwarz holds many technical demands in store for the riders.” Competing at the CHIO Aachen is like a attending an impressive party for the equestrian athletes. Just under 20,000 spectators lined the cross-country track to cheer on the riders last year.

The competitions start with the dressage in the Deutsche Bank Stadium on Friday, July 16th, followed by the show-jumping course, and finally the deciding competition of the DHL Prize (team and individual), the cross-country, which takes place the next day. Furthermore, a virtual course will be available at www.chioaachen.de around six weeks before the CHIO Aachen 2010 (July 9th-18th) kicks off. The service enables the user to experience the course in advance on his PC at home.
